| India has its work cut out against England 29th May 1999 By Ravish Mishra & Ajay Chaturvedi A fighting 39 from the bat of Ajay Jadeja, studded with boundaries, carried India to the unlikely score of 232 for 8 in their allotted 50 overs, in the crucial league match against England at Edgbaston in the ongoing World Cup Cricket 99. RELATED SITES & STORIESIt was the England captain, Alec Stewert who won the toss and put India in to bat. The openers Saurav Ganguly and S. Ramesh began very slowly, and the lethargy continued till the end. Even, Sachin Tendulkar seemed to be out of his touch. A score of 232 is definitely gettable for England, but the Indian bowling has a score to bowl at. The match is wide open and victory will be snatched by the team that does not panic. India is playing only four regular bowlers and will have to depend on non-regulars like Jadeja, Tendulkar and Ganguly to chip in with a few overs each. And the victory target of 233 that has been presented to England, allows no room for wides, no balls,. misfields or dropped catches. An absorbing session of play is ahead of us, which will be a battle of nerves to decide who comes out on top. The fact that in the other match between Zimbabwe and South Africa, the latter is now on top having allowed the former to score just 233 runs, is good news for India. If Zimbabwe loses that match, India can still make it to the super six on the strength of its good net run rate, even if this match is lost to England.
