India’s protest rejected 25th May 1999
India’s protest over match referee Cammie Smiths interpretation of the field- restricted overs rule was rejected by the technical committee of the ECB, the World Cup organisers on Monday.
The committee said the number of field-restricted overs should be reduced from 15 to 13 as a result of India incurring a four over penalty in their own innings by their slow over rate.
The decision of Cammie Smith was thus upheld. There was a certain ambiguity in the playing conditions but it was decided to send a circular to the officials and competing teams in regard to the regulation.
