| India lodges protest with World Cup organizers, seeks rematch against Zimbabwe 22nd May 1999
The Indian team management has lodged a protest with the World Cup organizers about International Cricket Council (ICC) match referee Cammie Smith’s interpretation on the number of overs of field restrictions during the match against Zimbabwe. It is understood that India has sought a replay against Zimbabwe.
In an official protest to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), the team management has protested reduction in the number of overs in the Indian innings, the number of overs for which field restrictions were applied, the monetary penalty imposed on the team and against the reduction in the number of overs per bowler (Zimbabwe) not being properly enforced.
India were penalised four overs for slow over-rate and allowed only 46 overs and field restrictions removed after 13.4 overs instead of the normal 15 overs.
