Sachin Tendulkar refused to be dragged into a debate on who, between Anil Kumble and Mahendra Singh Dhoni, is a better captain and said he enjoys playing under both the Indian skippers.Himself a former captain, Tendulkar has been a key cog in Kumble's Test squad, as well as Dhoni's one-day side. Asked who was a better captain between Kumble and Dhoni, the diplomat in Tendulkar offered a straight bat and shied away from a comparison. Instead, the Mumbaikar claimed both are quality captains. "Both of them are good," Tendulkar told a news channel Wednesday on the eve of his 35th birthday. "One is playing since 1990s and is a world class player. He is playing for 18 years and very few players have played for India for so long," Tendulkar said of Kumble. "Anil is a world class player and all are having high regards for him," he said. "On the other hand, Dhoni is a youngster who has played for two-and-a-half years and has performed tremendously. He has shown great maturity," Tendulkar assessed India's ODI and Twenty20 captain. And still refusing to compare them, Tendulkar said, "I have played under both of them. The contrast is there and it is a good opportunity to play under them and I'm enjoying," he said. Though Tendulkar had pulled out of the Twenty20 World Cup, along with fellow senior players, he is leading the Mumbai Indians side in the Indian Premier League. Talking about this new slam-bang format, Tendulkar felt it might eat into the ODI pie but Test cricket would not be affected. On the Twenty20 format, Tendulkar said it is very challenging and requires different skills as well as preparation and thinking. in-depth coverage > Sachin Tendulkar > |
