Seeking to scotch speculation about the reason for Shoaib Akhtar not playing the one-day series against India, the Pakistan Cricket Board has clarified that the fast bowler's action was not under ICC scrutiny."The ICC has told me there is nothing against Shoaib because if there was it has to come out and be reported to them," PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan said. "No report has been received, nothing has been done and the status quo that his action is fine remains," he told 'Cricinfo'. There have been suggestions since the Faisalabad Test that the game's governing body was concerned about Akhtar's action. India coach Greg Chappell's reported comment in Karachi that there was "something seriously different" about the action of the 'Rawalpindi Express' added further fuel to the fire. His remarks prompted the PCB to ask ICC to see whether they constituted a violation of the code of conduct. However, the PCB chief said that matter had now been laid to rest. "We were concerned about the comments made about his action. I went to the ICC and said if Chappell has actually said them they are against the code of conduct", he said. in-depth coverage > India-Pakistan Series 2006 > |
