Security personnel have arrived in Multan to prevent any untoward incidents during the fourth ODI between India and Pakistan on Thursday.Around 3,000 extra police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed as a strike has been called to protest the publication of cartoons on Prophet Mohammed. The roads from the Holiday Inn hotel, where the teams are staying, leading up to the Multan Cricket Stadium, were lined up with police and paramilitary personnel. Private franchises like KFC and Daewoo, who run an inter-city bus service in Pakistan, have also been provided with police security. However, big crowds eager to watch the day-night match, the first at the stadium, were milling around the venue since early on Thursday morning. The police have cordoned off the road from normal traffic at least 500 metres away. Gun-toting security people had lined themselves around the ground and the authorities were taking all precautions to ensure the smooth progress of the match. in-depth coverage > India-Pakistan Series 2006 > |
