After stroking his way to a superb 75 in the Indian second innings in Ahmedabad today, Yuvraj Singh said he was carrying the confidence from the preceding one-dayers during which he had played his former nemesis Mutiah Muralitharan well."I had played Murali well during the one-dayers. So I was pretty confident of taking him on. I was also carrying the good form from the one-day rubbers (against Sri Lanka and South Africa)," Yuvraj said after the third day's play in the third Test against Sri Lanka in Ahmedabad. "In the first innings I played just one ball (from Murali) and I did not know what was happening. So when I got a chance, I wanted to take it," he said at a press conference. "I was looking forward to playing positively out there. I was in good touch and I was thinking of playing my natural game," said the Punjab left-hander who slammed 13 fours and a six in his knock that came off 83 balls. "I am very happy I have taken the team to a position from where we can win the Test match. It's nothing to do with cementing my place (in the Test squad)," he said. Asked to compare his innings here to the fine knock of 77 he made in the second Test at Delhi which India won by a 188-run margin, the batsman said, "I have hardly played any Test cricket (10 in all). Both these innings have come in difficult circumstances". Asked whether he missed former captain Sourav Ganguly in the middle order, Yuvraj said he did not worry about who was at the other end. "Whenever I go out to bat I don't think about what has happened in the past or what will happen in future. I just go out and back myself to do well". in-depth coverage > India-Sri Lanka Test Series 2005 > |
