Ace Indian leg spinner Anil Kumble today said it was "very special" to be part of an elite group of players who have represented their country in 100 Test matches.Kumble, who reached the milestone in the third and final Test against Sri Lanka that began in Ahmedabad today, said, "It's very special to be a part of an elite group. It's a very nice feeling to have played 100 Test matches". The 35-year-old Bangalore stalwart, who was felicitated for his achievement by the Cricket Board's chief Sharad Pawar before start of play, said his most memorable moment in his decade and a half old career was when he first walked out as part of the Indian team at Old Trafford in 1990. "My first wicket and my first five-wicket haul were also memorable moments," Kumble told reporters after becoming only the fifth Indian player to play in 100 Tests. Asked about the toughest part of his illustrious career, which has fetched him 478 Test wickets, Kumble said, "coming back from my shoulder injury (that put him out of action for almost one year) was the toughest. It took me two months to lift my hand (after the surgery). My wife and relatives helped me and made this comeback possible". Asked whether he regretted not having become a pace bowler, which was his intention when he started his career, the suave Karnataka bowler said he did not. "I would not have lasted 100 Test matches had I been a fast bowler," he pointed out. in-depth coverage > India-Sri Lanka Test Series 2005 > |
