Wasim Jaffer, recalled to the national side for third time, today said he was not under extra pressure in having replaced Sourav Ganguly to play against Sri Lanka in the third and final Test commencing in Ahmedabad on December 18."I am under no extra pressure as I have earlier also made a comeback to the Indian team. I will be focusing on being more consistent after my earlier failures. Once you go out of the team you know where you went wrong and playing domestic cricket for the last few seasons has been very helpful in my progress," Jaffer said. The Mumbai opener, who last played for India at the Test level against England in 2002 at Trentbridge Nottingham, England said "I had a good season in Duleep trophy and Ranji this year. I was expecting a call-up since India are to tour Pakistan soon and I knew one more opener would be needed". "Still it was a pleasant surprise as I didn't expect a call so early," Jaffer added. Asked weather playing at home will be a big advantage, the Mumbai batsman said "it has both advantage and disadvantage. There is a lot of pressure while playing at home. There is a lot of disturbance but I am looking forward to playing at home." Jaffer, who has played seven Tests earlier said it was a huge challenge to play against top Sri Lankan bowlers Chaminda Vaas and Mutiah Muralitharan. "These are two great bowlers who have taken 1000 wickets between them. It will be a big challenge for me and I am looking forward to it," the lanky batsman said. in-depth coverage > India-Sri Lanka Test Series 2005 > |
