The figures say it all. India's complete dominance over Sri Lanka in the just-concluded ODI series is reflected amply in batting and bowling averages list with Mahendra Dhoni and Harbhajan Singh walking away with the honours. Dhoni's rise to superstardom appears justified as the Jharkhand wicket-keeper batsman managed to pip such stalwarts as Sachin Tendulkar and Sanath Jayasuriya, returning an astounding average of 115.33 with a strike rate of 119.31. The youngster, who was declared Man-of-the Series, amassed 346 runs from five innings with two unfinished knocks. For Sri Lanka, Kumar Sangakkara was their best batsman but he could manage just about half the average of Dhoni. He scored 296 runs from seven outings to finish with an average of 49.33. Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh was clearly the pick of bowlers on either side. He may not have picked the maximum wickets--that credit went to Ajit Agarkar with 12 scalps--but he was very economical (3.62) on batsman-friendly wickets. That the Lankan bowlers got the stick from the rampaging Indian batsmen is evident from their figures. All of their bowlers proved expensive except for star spinner Muttiah Muralitharan who was marginally better. in-depth coverage > India-Sri Lanka Series 2005 > |
