Announcing that he was ‘fit’, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly on Friday said he expected to be included in the Test series against Sri Lanka. When asked about the selectors meet on Saturday to choose the team for the Test series against Lanka and if he expects a place in the team, Ganguly, said, “I always expect to be taken in the team”. On his tennis elbow injury, the southpaw batsman said, “I am fit”. Ganguly, who will lead the East Zone for Duleep Trophy final on Saturday against West Zone in Ahmedabad was in the news for his spat with coach Greg Chappell, said that he was happy at the recent performance of the Indian team which has won the ODI series against Sri Lanka 4-1. Asked about his feeling on the team’s performance, Ganguly said, “I have been part of the Indian cricket team for the past 10 years and when it is doing good it is natural that one feels good”. When quizzed about the difference between captaining a domestic and an international team, Ganguly said, “the pressures and expectations are different”. Ganguly, who has had a mediocre run in the Duleep Trophy with only a confident century at Rajkot under his belt, said that the Motera Ground was ‘good’ for him. Regarding having to face paceman Zaheer Khan who will be playing for the West Zone, Ganguly said he had not played Zaheer before as they were both part of the Indian team. Asked about his teams’ prospects in the finals against West Zone, Ganguly said, “I have not played against them for quite some time and the last match I had played 10 years ago”. in-depth coverage > India-Sri Lanka Series 2005 > |
