Is it true that marriages are made in heaven and dates are fixed on the earth? Paan Singh, father of the latest celebrity cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni, believes it is destiny. “But the dates will be thought only after World Cup. And this is also the decision of Dhoni," says Singh. Dhoni, the youngest among three siblings, was just two, when Kapil Dev conquered the World Cup in 1983, vanquishing West Indies team of Clive Lloyd. "Dhoni has not given thought to marriage plans. He has set his goals on World Cup. He wants India to regain the coveted Cup," says his father. Asked whether the family would prefer a housewife or settle for Dhoni's choice, Singh said, "Who are we to decide? It is my son, who will decide on his choice. "On reports that the family is flooded with marriage proposals, Singh requested the media to write only the truth. "It was long back that we got a proposal and two more thereafter. So where is the flood? Dhoni is still young and let him grow in the game of cricket," he said. Dhoni already has a large fan following and "one should not mistake it with marriage proposals," says a family friend. in-depth coverage > India-Sri Lanka Series 2005 > |
