Notwithstanding his admiration for Sourav Ganguly, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today ruled out the possibility of his intervention to get the former skipper back into the Indian cricket team."I love cricket, but I'm not at all interested in what happens in the BCCI. I do not want to get involved in it, nor will I ever do so," Bhattacharjee said at a 'Meet-the-Press' programme in Kolkata today when asked whether as Chief Minister, he would find out why Ganguly was dropped from the national team. Stating that he was a Ganguly fan, Bhattacharjee said "we have spoken to him in his good times, we are with him in his bad times. I spoke to him recently and I will speak to him again, maybe tomorrow." Responding to a question, the Chief Minister said his government was willing to provide land for setting up a football academy in Kolkata, but made it clear that the costs would not be borne by the government. "The government cannot do anything unless someone else takes the initiative." in-depth coverage > India-Sri Lanka Series 2005 > |
