Indian skipper Rahul Dravid was the highest ranking Indian batsman but his more famous teammate Sachin Tendulkar was not far behind, moving back into the top ten at number nine, according to the latest one-day international cricket rankings, released in Dubai.India remained at the seventh place although another two wins in the remaining matches of the series against Lanka could help them climb up the charts. Nevertheless, India's batsmen moved up the individual rankings on the back of their success in ongoing series. Dravid was lurking close to his career-best ranking, climbing 17 places to move to seventh in the batting list. Sachin made a comeback to international cricket following a six-month injury layoff in the series against Lanka in an emphatic manner, hitting two strokeful half centuries on the trot. Among the bowlers, Harbhajan Singh climbed 10 places to 11th. Four defeats in a row to India cost Sri Lanka heavily as they slid to number four in the rankings. Meanwhile, South Africa's 4-0 series win over New Zealand lifted them to second place in the ICC ODI Championship. Graeme Smith's side started the series in fifth spot but their success has taken them to within 16 points of leaders Australia. in-depth coverage > India-Sri Lanka Series 2005 > |
