Ganguly left in the cold again, Kaif returns
15.55 IST   07th Nov 2005

By Agencies

Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly found himself left in the cold once again while Mohammad Kaif made his comeback as the national selectors on Sunday finalised the Indian team for the final two one-day internationals against Sri Lanka.

Kaif and Vikram Rajveer Singh were the two players to make it to the final leg of the seven-match series with Venugopal Rao and Jai Prakash Yadav making way for them in the 15-member squad announced after a meeting of the BCCI selection committee at the end of the fifth ODI at the Sardar Patel stadium in Ahmedabad.

"This is not to say so," Kiran More, chairman of selectors, said when asked if the non-inclusion marked the end of Ganguly's one-day career.

Ganguly found himself ousted as captain after he was unavailable due to an elbow injury for the Challenger Series and first two one-dayers of the Sri Lanka series.

Kaif was ruled out of action for five weeks after he suffered an injury during fielding in the Challenger Series final and missed the five ODIs.

India clinched the seven-match series by winning the first four matches before the Lankans registered their first win with a five-wicket victory on Sunday in Ahmedabad.

The sixth and seventh matches are to be played at Rajkot (November 9) and Vadodara (November 12).
