Dalmiya refutes e-mail leak charge
22.13 IST   03rd Oct 2005

By Agencies

Former Cricket Board president Jagmohan Dalmiya today refuted allegations that he had leaked coach Greg Chappell's sensational e-mail, saying it was hard to comprehend how he could have gained any advantage by releasing it to the press.

Dalmiya said he was open for a thorough investigation into the case and also charged his detractors like Raj Singh Dungarpur and I S Bindra with following a one-point anti-Dalmiya agenda.

"If at all it was meant to serve any purpose, it should have come out on Sep 21 or 22 before the election. But it was published on 23rd. It is foolish (to suggest that I leaked it)," he told a private news channel.

"There is a difference between release and leak. In my position I will come up with release and statements and not leaks.

"Leak was what Raj Singh Dungarpur did when he was chairman of the selection committee. All that drama over Azhar's selection, people like Bindra and Dungarpur leaked to the media."

Asked why he had not countered the allegation when it was made, Dalmiya said, "it is his (Dungarpur's) one-point programme (to criticise) if I have to deny everything that he says, everyday I will have to sit down for a couple of hours."

Dalmiya also said the allegations must be backed by some logic and that he would welcome any investigation into the matter. "I don't want it to be swept under the carpet," he said.
