Taking serious note of Harbhajan Singh coming down heavily on coach Greg Chappell in support of embattled skipper Sourav Ganguly, the Punjab Cricket Association called the spinner to attention. The Association also asked the bowler to shut up on his views on this issue henceforth. Concerned over off-spinner Harbhajan’s outburst against Indian team coach Greg Chappell, the Punjab Cricket Association today asked the bowler to meet its Secretary at the earliest. The administrative committee of Punjab Cricket Association has taken note of and considered the statements made by Harbhajan, who is registered with PCA and currently part of the Indian team. The committee had requested the PCA secretary to get in touch with the player and convey the committee's feelings. In spite of the best efforts to contact him, he is not accessible at the moment, a PCA release said in Chandigarh Sunday night. Therefore, he is being advised to meet PCA office bearers (PCA Secretary M P Pandov) for discussions and appropriate remedial measures and put the things in the right perspective, the release added. PCA sources said that since he is affiliated to the association he should not have given any statement on the matter without discussing the issue with them. They said that since the BCCI Review Committee would meet in Mumbai on Tuesday to discuss the team's performance in Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe Harbhajan should have kept quiet. Earlier on Sunday, Harbhajan backed captain Sourav Ganguly crediting him for the success of the team and accused Chappell of creating "fear and insecurity" among the players. He also accused the coach of adopting "double standards" The Review Committee consists of BCCI President Ranbir Singh Mahendera (Chairman), Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri, S Venkatraghavan and S K Nair (Convenor). In the meeting on Tuesday, coach Chappell, skipper Ganguly and Amitabh Choudhary (Manager of the Indian team that toured Zimbabwe) have been invited as special invitees, so that the committee could also hear their views, Nair informed through a media release. "I have spoken to Harbhajan on the issue and he has appreciated our point of view. Perhaps he's not read the provisions of the contract", Nair said. in-depth coverage > India in Zimbabwe 2005 > |
