In a partial relief to Sourav Ganguly, ICC Disputes Resolution Commissioner Justice Sachs today reduced his ban from six ODIs matches to four, raising the possibility of his participation in the Tri-series in Sri Lanka.South Africa's Justice Sachs, who heard BCCI's dispute on the process adopted for hearing Ganguly's appeal, said he was guilty of charges as laid out under the ICC Code of Conduct but the verdict by ICC Match Referee had laid too much stress on the fact that the offence was repeated in a short time. "In my opinion, when awarding the penalty, too much weight was given to the fact that the offence (second time) was within the same week," Sachs told a media teleconference. "The shortage of overs was not very big, and not deliberate. But there was certainly a lack of energy." Ganguly was banned for six one-dayers after the Indian team was twice found guilty of slow over rate during the home series against Pakistan in April early this year. He was let off with a 70 per cent match fee fine on the first occasion by Match Referee Chris Broad. Broad however raised the charge to Level 3 offence under the Code of Conduct which invited a two to six match ban. in-depth coverage > Tri-Nation Tournament in Sri Lanka > |
