He has been shouldering the responsibility of batting at the number seven slot for the Indian one-day team for quite a while now and is willing to do that till it is in the best interest of the team. But given a personal choice, middle order batsman Mohammad Kaif would prefer to bat in a position where he gets "more overs to bat." "It is not easy to bat at no 7, especially in the sub continent. With the field spread out and the ball getting softer, it is difficult to hit big shots but you are expected to score quick runs which gets difficult at times. "But I have no complaints about it as I am doing a good job and the team management is happy with it," Kaif told reporters on the sidelines of the PSPB's Silver Jubilee Awards function in New Delhi today. "But if you ask me, it (batting at that position) won't be a personal choice. In fact no batsman would personally opt for this position in the world." The 25-year-old, who has scored 1860 runs in 87 ODIs so far, was, however, quick to add that he was willing to continue playing at the same position till the team managements wants him to. Asked what would be his ideal batting position, Kaif declined a clear answer and said, "I will just like more overs to bat." in-depth coverage > India-Pakistan Cricket Series 2005 > |
