Confusion and chaos reigned supreme as Ferozeshah Kotla gets ready to stage the sixth one-dayer between India and Pakistan with the sale of tickets delayed and ticket-seekers lathicharged. The Central Bank branch at Parliament Street, authorised to sell tickets from today, saw a crowd of 2,000 waiting to buy the tickets for the match only to be told later by the bank officials that the organisers, Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) have not delivered the tickets. The crowd raised slogans and police and paramilitary force had to be called in to control the violent mood of the gathering. When contacted, an official of the DDCA confirmed that sale of tickets will commence from Friday as tomorrow is a bank holiday. That only leaves two days for the cricket enthusiasts to buy the 12,200 tickets on sale from the six branches of Central Bank at Panchsheel Park, Karkardooma, Patparganj, Lawrence Road and Kashmiri Gate apart from Parliament Street. These tickets will be in the denomination of Rs 400, Rs 1,000, Rs 5,000 and Rs 11,000 but DDCA officials denied giving the exact numbers of the tickets in each category. The spectators have been advised not to carry handbags, cameras, matchboxes, cell phones, water bottles and food packets, as these will not be allowed inside the stadium. The officials also confirmed that Pakistani spectators would be seated in the 'A' wing of the stadium and food will be provided to them after depositing a coupon given alongwith their tickets. Meanwhile, the journalists also faced hardships in entering the Kotla grounds, which looked like a fortified bastion. The only people who could enter the venue without any difficulty were the labourers and police officials. in-depth coverage > India-Pakistan Cricket Series 2005 > |
