There is no Test playing country in the world where Rahul Dravid has not scored a century. The Indian vice-captain on Friday became the first batsman in the history of Test cricket to score a hundred in all the Test playing countries. Dravid reached the landmark when he hit his 18th century against Bangladesh on the first day of the second Test at MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong on December 17. Dravid hit his first century abroad against South Africa at the Wanderers in January 1997. That was also Dravid’s maiden Test ton. Dravid’s second century on foreign soil came against Zimbabwe in the one-off Test at Harare in October 1998. Dravid’s third and fourth hundreds abroad came in the same Test against New Zealand in January 1999. Dravid’s fifth century outside India came in the Asian Test Championship in February 1999 – against Sri Lanka in Colombo. Dravid’s sixth century on foreign soil was an unbeaten 144 against the West Indies in the first Test at Georgetown, Guyana in April 2002. Dravid then hit three centuries in the last three Tests on the 2002 tour to England. He first smashed 115 in the second innings at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, then hit 148 runs in the first innings at Headingley in Leeds as India beat England by an innings and 46 runs. In the fourth Test at The Oval in London, Dravid scored 217 runs. Dravid had a disastrous tour to Australia in 1999, but on the 2003/04 tour Down Under, Dravid smashed a superb 233 (his tenth century abroad) in the second Test at the Adelaide Oval. That knock was instrumental in India’s win in the Test. It is every Indian’s dream to score a century against Pakistan and nothing can get better if that century comes at Pakistani soil. After failing in the first two Tests in Multan and Lahore in India’s 2003/04 tour to Pakistan, Dravid smashed his fourth double century, and his eleventh hundred on foreign soil in the third Test at Rawalpindi as India beat Pakistan by an innings and 131 runs to take the three-Test series 2-1. And today Dravid hit his first hundred against Bangladesh in Chittagong to become the first batsman in the history of Test cricket to score a hundred in all the Test playing countries. in-depth coverage > Indian Cricket Team's Bangladesh Tour > |
