Waugh bats for Ganguly 12.22 IST 24th Nov 2004
By IndiaExpress Bureau
All know that former Australian skipper Steve Waugh and Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly were not the best of friends. But Ganguly has always acknowledged that he has great respect for Waugh.
And now Waugh seems to have reciprocated Ganguly’s respect by saying that Ganguly is doing a good job and there is no need to replace him.
"I don't see any reason to replace Sourav as he was instrumental in changing attitude of his teammates, especially while playing abroad," Waugh told reporters in Vijayawada on Tuesday.
"Ganguly stood out as a leader in many adverse situations," the former Australian captain, who was in Vijayawada to promote schemes of Australian insurance company, ANP Sanmar, of which he is the brand ambassador, said.
To a query, Waugh said he did not regret failing to win the Test series in India in 2001.
"The series was fought hard. We (the Australians) learnt many lessons to emerge a stronger team," he added.
