Despite a comprehensive 59-run victory against India in a Super League match yesterday, Pakistan ended up conceding a bonus point to India on the basis of the ICC rule which allows a losing team to gain a bonus point if it prevents the rival team from achieving a run rate 1.25 times higher than its own. "The issue such as bonus points should be decided within the difference of 20-30 runs only. It is not fair when a side wins by 60 runs but is still not good enough for a bonus point... It shows a flaw in the system," said the Englishman. Pakistan, with one win and one defeat but no bonus points are placed third on the points table on five points while Sri Lanka are placed at the top with 12 followed by India on 7. If India beat Sri Lanka tomorrow, they will make it to the final alongwith the hosts. Bangladesh are already out of contention for a final berth. in-depth coverage > Asia Cup 2004 > |
