Leg spinner Anil Kumble today said India had a good chance of regaining the Asia Cup since it was going in to the tournament with a full-strength team, which had bowlers capable of getting quick breakthroughs.Participating at a function, organised by title sponsors Indian Oil in Chennai, to unveil the Asia Cup, Kumble said since he had been practising hard for the tournament for the last two months, he was confident of putting up a good performance in the one-day competition beginning next week in Sri Lanka. "We have the best team picked for tournament and with Harbhajan and the medium pacers, who are capable of getting quick breakthroughs, Indian should regain the trophy," the veteran leggie said. Asked for his comment on Captain Sourav Ganguly's remark this morning that Kumble's bowling was at its peak during the camp and the three match situations, he said, "I am really thankful for Sourav's comments. I have been working for it for the last two months and I hope, I will be able to live up to the expectations of my team mates." Yuvraj, who was also present at the function alongwith Irfan Pathan, brushed aside questions on the second opener's slot in Tests. "Lot of statements and comments have been made on the opener's issue. Now we are looking ahead to the Asia Cup limited overs tournament. The Test match is far way but I will do my best, if picked." Pathan said his bowling had improved a lot since he made his debut in Australia last season. "I have improved a lot since my debut. I get a lot of advice from my seniors and hope to perform to my full potential for the team's cause." in-depth coverage > Asia Cup 2004 > |
