Tamper proof tickets for India-Pakistan cricket matches
23.07 IST   28th Feb 2004

By IndiaExpress Bureau

The Pakistan Cricket Board has printed special security bars on tickets for the upcoming India series to check fraud, counterfeiting and duplication of tickets.

PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan said tickets, which would be available through the booths and online, will have special security bars and ticketing would be done through a electronic computerised system.

"When a person buys a ticket(s) his name, NIC number and address will appear on his ticket and his photograph would also be available to us in our computer data. When he goes to the stadium he has to pass the ticket through a special access bar which will recognise the ticket and identify the holder and allow him in," he said in a press conference last evening.

Announcing the policy for sale of tickets for the series of five one-dayers and three Tests, Khan said the Board was looking forward to an income of Rs seven to eight crore from their sale.

"These are besides the USD 21 million we have earned through sale of television, sponsorship and merchandising rights," he said.

Khan said he was hopeful that the tickets for the series would be sold out through booths well in advance of the matches.

"We will put tickets on sale at booths at the venues a week before the match and we are confident there will be no need to sell tickets on the day of the match. Because the initial reports show there is a great demand for the tickets."
