"When we came over we told ourselves we wanted to check us out in Australia. It was also challenge for us to keep the momentum going for two and a half months," Ganguly said after India were crushed by a huge 208-run margin in the second of the best-of-three finals in Sydney. The Indian momentum seemed to flag off towards the end and Ganguly hinted it could be the length of the tour, which got to them in the end. "The length of the tour, especially after you have played four Tests... I think the one-day tour could be reduced at the league stage. "Look at the way the Australians plan their cricket. They would be touring the sub-continent for two and half months. They are going to India just for four Tests - it is a matter of a month and 10 days, so the boys are not fatigued or tired. "England also for instance, when they came over here last year they broke up the Tests and one-dayers." Ganguly though gave full credit to Australia who played as many matches as they did and kept the momentum going till the final day of the summer. "We did not play well in the two finals -- so we didn't deserve to win. They just lifted their game when it mattered." "We dropped off in the last week I would say. We are not saying we are not tired but that cannot be the excuse. Even their side has played the same amount of cricket as we have done," the Indian captain said. "But that is not an excuse. We didn't play well in the two finals and they deserved to win." Ganguly was still praiseful of his side and said it was, in most ways, an exceptional tour for the young Indian team. "It was an outstanding series for us. For a young side like ours to come and play the best side in the world and play so well (was good). We dominated the Test series and they played better than us in the one-dayers. "It has been an exceptional tour for us." Ganguly also was disappointed with his own form and hoped he would be more consistent in future. "I didn't bat well in the last few games and that was disappointing.
