Kenya to exploit India’s negative mindset : Patil
19.33 IST   17th Mar 2003

By IndiaExpress Bureau

Kenyan coach Sandeep Patil has expressed the determination of his team to exploit the "negative" mindset of the Indians to pull off another upset win.

Patil, in the limelight ever since the underdogs made it to the Super Sixes, has a simple logic for his team staking its claim on cricket's most prestigious trophy.

"If we beat India and Sri Lanka beats Australia, we meet Sri Lanka in the final. We have beaten them before and we could do it again," said Patil.

Patil, who likened himself to a "stray dog suddenly beginning to appear as a German Shepherd to the rest of the cricketing world", has the plans in place. And the plot to get past the Indian hurdle has also been hatched.

Patil is asking his boys to do the basics right and create "enough pressure on the opposition to lure them into making mistakes".

Patil is of the view that the Indians had a "negative mindset" which could be exploited to Kenya's advantage.

"I do not understand this seven batsmen logic. If Sachin (Tendulkar) and Sehwag, Sourav (Ganguly) and (Mohd) Kaif, (Rahul) Dravid and Yuvraj (Singh) are not going to win you the World Cup, Dinesh Mongia certainly is not the one to do it. To me, it betrays a defensive mindset," said the coach.
