By Manish Kumar

Sri Lanka beat Zimbabwe by 74 runs in their World Cup Super Six encounter at Buffalo Park in East London on March 15. With this win, Sri Lanka are through to the semi-final where they will clash with Australia.

This Sri Lankan win also means that New Zealand are out of the World Cup.

Chasing a victory target of 256 runs, Zimbabwe were bowled out for 182 runs in 41.5 overs.

Zimbabwean opener Craig Wishart top scored for his side with 43.

Andy Flower, playing the last match for his country, scored 38 runs. He was unlucky to be given out leg before wicket off Aravinda De Silva, because there was a clear inside edge onto his pads.

For the Sri Lankans, their skipper Sanath Jayasuriya took three wickets, while Chaminda Vaas and Avishka Gunaratne took two wickets each and De Silva, Muttiah Muralitharan and Dilhara Fernando took a wicket each.

Earlier, Jayasuriya won the toss and elected to bat.

Riding on a marvelous unbeaten century by Marvan Atapattu, the Lankans put up a total of 256/5 in their 50 overs.

Man of the Match Atapattu scored an unbeaten 103, while Avishka Gunawardene and Kumar Sangakkara chipped in with 41 and 35 runs respectively.

Now the Sri Lankans will take on defending champions Australia on the slow sluggish pitch at Port Elizabeth on March 18.
