MPs demand Bharat Ratna for Sachin Tendulkar
18.55 IST   15th Mar 2003

By IndiaExpress Bureau

There is growing demand in India to honor master blaster Sachin Tendulkar in view of his services to the country. Some Members of Parliament have begun signature campaign seeking conferment of Bharat Ratna on Tendulkar

Now Human Resources Development Minister Dr Murli Manohar Joshi also wants Sachin to be honored.

"A person who defended the honor of the country is to be honored. But it is for the government to decide the level of honor to be bestowed on him," Dr Joshi said in Thiruvananthapuram.

Joshi was being questioned on the signature campaign by group of MPs.

The Minister said he was not aware of the signature campaign by the MPs as he was in Kerala for the past two days. "I am here in Kerala. I have not seen what the demand is," Joshi added.
