Shiv Sena accuses Sony Max for disrespect to tricolor 17.35 IST 15th Mar 2003
By IndiaExpress Bureau
Shiv Sena on Saturday accused television channel Sony Max of showing disrespect to the national flag during the India-New Zealand World Cup match on Friday.
Urging the Centre to initiate legal proceedings against the channel, Delhi Shiv Sena president Abhimanyu Gulati said after India's victory over the Kiwis, the TV channel displayed the tricolor upside down on its studio desk.
Cricketers Kapil Dev, Arun Lal, Venkatesh Prasad, actress Mandira Bedi and anchor Charu Sharma were present on the show during the Extraa Innings programme on the World Cup when the tricolor was shown.
He said the government must rethink on its decision to permit the common people to hoist the flag if even the elite shows disrespect to the tricolour.
