Having taken the ‘sweet revenge’ against the Kiwis, Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly said his team was prepared to take on anyone in the final of the World Cup but would rather like to face Sri Lanka. India's seven-wicket victory against New Zealand on Friday not only dimmed the chances of Kiwi’s entry into the semi finals, it has also kept alive Sri Lanka's hopes of advancing further in the tournament. Sri Lanka’s fate will depend upon the last match in the Super Six against Zimbabwe on Saturday. Speaking about India’s win over the Kiwis, Ganguly said the victory was satisfactory because it gave Sri Lanka a chance to sneak into the last four stage, and possibly beat Australia in the semis. "We will be prepared to take on anyone in the final but we would like it to be Sri Lanka," Indian skipper said. "I think Sri Lanka have a very good chance of beating Australia in the semi-finals. That was one of the reasons why we wanted to win this game. Obviously, we wanted to continue our winning momentum and go into the semi-finals with a lot of confidence". in-depth coverage > Cricket World Cup 2003 > |
