Rain may spoil the sixth One-dayer at Auckland
20.43 IST   10th Jan 2003

By IndiaExpress Bureau

India’s sixth one-day international against New Zealand to be played on Saturday is in danger of being washed out with persistent rains in Auckland.

India finally broke their dismal losing streak on this tour with a win in the fifth one-dayer at Wellington. They would be keen to clinch the remaining two games of the seven-match series too to salvage some pride and regain the winning habit before the next month's World Cup.

India has lost the seven match ODI series and is trailing by 4-1.

It has been raining over the last few days in Auckland and a match on January 11 appears a remote possibility right now.

If the match can’t be played on Saturday, then it will be staged as a day match on Sunday. But forecast for the reserve day on Sunday is also not good.

On the team front there is good news as India is at last free from injury problems.

“All of the Indian side are fit for the sixth match”, Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly said on Friday.

New Zealand will have to go into the Saturday’s match without the services of their attacking opening batsman Nathan Astle, who is out for the rest of the series with a recurrence of a patella tendon injury.
