A unit of New Zealand Drug Testing Agency, a government- backed institute, arrived at the hotel where the team is staying on Friday morning and took urine sample of all cricketers. The team management maintained extreme secrecy about the tests, so that the media does not get wind of it, fuelling unnecessary speculation. The urine samples are now being sent to Sydney to be examined by an International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved drug-test laboratory. The results are expected to be announced in 10 days time. Indications are that another test is likely to be conducted on cricketers once they return to India. The Indian Board is contemplating the move though cricketers are not happy about it. Only four countries - Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and England - have a regular doping policy. ICC has warned the others against the dangers ahead in South Africa. The Indian Board had been given a list of banned substances by the ICC in August last. in-depth coverage > Indian Cricket Team's New Zealand Tour > |
