Australian captain Steve Waugh on Friday became the third batsman in history to pass 10,000 test runs.He achieved this feat on the second day of the final Ashes test against England at Sydney. Waugh has joined Allan Border and Sunil Gavaskar as the only players to pass the magical milestone of 10,000 runs. That’s not all. Waugh smashed a four off the last ball of the day to complete an unbeaten century to match Sir Don Bradman's Australian record of 29 test hundreds. Waugh's 102, which included 18 fours, helped Australia recover from 45 for three to finish the day at 237 for five, 125 behind England's first innings total of 362 with five wickets in hand. Wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist was unbeaten on 45. He shared an unbroken 87-run partnership with his captain. Earlier, veteran English player Alec Stewart who had chickenpox, scored 71 before England lost their last five wickets for 30 runs to be all out for 362 after starting the day on 264-5. in-depth coverage > Ashes Series 2002-2003 > |
