Ashes: No mercy for England 16.27 IST 30th Nov 2002
By IndiaExpress Bureau
A depleted England side was left facing the prospect of defeat inside three days after reaching 33/1 in their second innings at close of play on Day Two in the third Ashes Test at Perth on November 30.
Nasser Hussain’s side still trailed a daunting Australian first innings total of 456 by 238 runs.
Damien Martyn (71), Ricky Ponting (68) and skipper Steve Waugh (53) all scored half-centuries for Australia while Craig White captured five wickets for 127.
Brett Lee (41), Shane Warne (35) and Jason Gillespie (27) increased the misery of the England bowlers with some lusty hitting.
The tourists were forced to play without paceman Chris Silverwood who was ruled out of the match with an ankle injury sustained while fielding on day one.
