Cricket board rules out Srinath replacing Nehra
17.51 IST   27th Sept 2002

By IndiaExpress Bureau

The Indian Cricket Board has turned down captain Sourav Ganguly’s request that ace pace bowler Javagal Srinath replace injured left-arm seamer Ashish Nehra for the final of the Champions Trophy in Colombo.

Newly-elected BCCI secretary S K Nair told reporters in Mumbai that team manager K M Ramprasad had informed the board that there was no need to replace Nehra at this stage.

However, Nehra, who had injured his bowling hand, is doubtful for Sunday's final, team physio Andrew Leipus said.

Srinath, who is playing in county championship in England, has retired from test cricket but is ready to play in the one-dayers.

Nehra was injured during the semi-final against South Africa on Wednesday while trying to run out Jacques Kallis off his own bowling. He split the webbing between the index finger and middle finger on his left hand necessitating five stitches.
