The strong Indian batting line-up led by master blaster Sachin Tendulkar will be put to a much tougher test by South Africa which boasts of a good pace attack headed by Allan Donald who is set to return to the team despite an ankle injury. The pace trio of Donald, Shaun Pollock and Jacques Kallis can trouble Indian batsmen. The Indians, whose confidence is high in the wake of their spectacular success against England, are unlikely to disturb their winning combination. The only place up for grabs is the number three position for which Dinesh Mongia and V V S Laxman are vying. The speedster duo of Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra bowled beautifully against England. Ajit Agarkar has not been tried out in this tournament so far. He may make it to the team if India decides to play another seamer. The Teams: India Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly (capt), Dinesh Mongia, Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag, Mohammad Kaif, VVS Laxman, Yuvraj Singh, Jai Prakash Yadav, Ajit Agarkar, Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra. South Africa Herschelle Gibbs, Graeme Smith, Boeta Dippenaar, Jacques Kallis, Jonty Rhodes, Dale Benkenstein, Justin Ontong, Mark Boucher (wk), Lance Klusener, Shaun Pollock (capt), Nicky Boje, Alan Dawson, Allan Donald, Makhaya Ntini, Steve Elworthy, Robin Peterson. in-depth coverage > ICC Champions Trophy 2002 > |
