Defending champions New Zealand beat minnows Bangladesh by 167 runs in the last league match of the ICC Champions Trophy at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo on September 23.

Chasing a victory target of 245 runs, Bangladesh were bundled out for just 77 runs in 19.3 overs.

Kiwi pace spearhead Shane Bond was the wrecker-in-chief taking four wickets for just 21 runs in his five overs. Bond was adjudged the Man of the Match.

Rest of the Kiwi bowlers Jacob Oram, Kyle Mills and Daniel Vettori took two wickets each. Eight of the ten wickets to fall were edges resulting in catches taken behind the wicket.

Earlier, Bangladesh skipper Khaled Mashud won the toss and put the Kiwis in to bat.

Matthew Sinclair top scored for his side with 70. Kiwi skipper Stephen Fleming and Jacob Oram chipped in with 31 and 30 runs respectively.

The Kiwis put up a total of 244 runs with the loss of nine wickets in their 50 overs.

The next match of the tournament is the first semi-final between India and South Africa at the Premadasa Stadium on Wednesday.
