16.17 IST   21st Sept 2002

By Manish Kumar

Pakistan trounced Holland by nine wickets in the tenth match of the ICC Champions Trophy at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo on September 21.

Pakistan achieved the low victory target of 137 runs in just 16.2 overs with some lusty hitting by Imran Nazir and Shahid Afridi.

Nazir top scored with a quickfire 59 off 40 balls with eleven fours. Afridi made a blazing 55 off just 18 balls with four fours and six sixes. Afridi fell short of Jayasuriya’s record of fastest ODI fifty by just one ball.

Afridi remained not out with Anwar, who scored 28 runs.

Earlier, Holland skipper Roland Lefebvre won the toss and elected to bat.

The Dutch skipper coming to bat at number nine, top scored for his side with 32.

Afridi shone with the ball too taking three wickets, while his skipper Waqar Younis took two wickets. Rest of the bowlers, Shoaib Akhtar, Mohammad Sami, Abdul Razzaq and Shoaib Malik took a wicket each.

Afridi was adjudged the Man of the Match.

Though their score the Dutch survived the full fifty overs in this inconsequential match as far as the tournament is concerned.

The next match of the tournament is between India and England on Sunday at the Premadasa. The winner of this match will meet South Africa in the first semi-final at the Premadasa on Wednesday.
