By Manish Kumar

Marcus Trescothick fourth ODI century powered England to a comfortable 108-run victory over Zimbabwe in the seventh match of the ICC Champions Trophy at the Premadasa stadium on September 18.

Chasing a huge victory target of 299 runs, Zimbabwe could manage 190 runs with the loss of nine wickets from their allotted 48 overs. They were fined two overs for slow over rate during the England innings.

Zimbabwean skipper Heath Streak top scored for his side with an unbeaten 50, while Andy Flower chipped in with 44 runs.

Matthew Hoggard and Ronnie Irani were the pick of the English bowlers. Hoggard bowled superbly with the new ball taking three wickets in his spell of ten overs. Irani bowled beautifully with the old ball taking four wickets in his spell of ten overs.

Earlier, England skipper Nasser Hussain won the toss and elected to bat.

England lost Nick Knight early, but Trescothick and Hussain put up 141 runs for the second wicket scoring at a brisk rate.

Trescothick raced to his ton off just 89 balls and his 102-ball knock of 119 consisted of eleven fours and two sixes. The tall left-handed England opener was adjudged the Man of the Match.

Hussain contributed with 75 runs, with England going on to score 298/8 in 50 overs.

The next match of the tournament is between world champions Australia and minnows Bangladesh at the SSC on Thursday.
