ICC: Use of TV replays do not slow down cricket 20.32 IST 18th Sept 2002
By IndiaExpress Bureau
Increasing use of television replays to help the umpires has not slowed down cricket in a big way. However, the International Cricket Council will analyze all aspects of the trial before taking a final decision on future use of such technology. On average, the third umpire takes a decision in less than a minute. This indicates that frequent use of replay technology “is not slowing down the flow of the game to any significant effect," the International Cricket Council said in a statement on Wednesday.
"Supporting this observation is the fact that there have been only two over rate penalties (both of one over) in the six completed matches. These were attributed to other playing factors," it said.
Still, the ICC will analyze all aspects of the trial and consult all parties before formulating a definitive position on the future use of umpiring technology.
