The six-match series ended in a draw at 3-3, with India winning at Kolkata, Chennai and Kanpur and England winning at Cuttack, Delhi and Mumbai. Chasing 256 runs to win, India were bowled out for 250 runs in 49.5 overs. Sachin Tendulkar was dismissed early caught behind by wicket keeper James Foster off Darren Gough. Sachin scored 12 runs off 18 balls with one four and one six. Virender Sehwag got off to a magnificent start hitting four fours and six in his score off 31 runs off 29 balls. But Andrew Caddick had Sehwag caught at mid-on by Graham Thorpe to reduce India to 88/2. Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly top scored for his side with 80 runs off 99 balls with 4 fours and 4 sixes. Ganguly dragged the ball the ball onto his stumps off Ashley Giles. Dinesh Mongia and Mohammed Kaif chipped in with 35 and 20 runs respectively. Hemang Badani remained not out on 27. But these small contributions in the end were not enough for India to guide to victory. Earlier England skipper Nasser Hussain won the toss and elected to bat. England opener Marcus Trescothick was dropped at backward point by Badani on the first ball of the match. Trescothick went on to score 95 runs with 9 fours and a six. Hussain (41) and Andrew Flintoff (40) contributed well with the bat for England, with Flintoff being instrumental in taking the England score from 174/6 to 255 runs in 49.1 overs. Harbhajan Singh returned with his best career spell of 10-1-43-5. Trescothick was adjudged the Man of the Match and Sachin Tendulkar was adjudged the Man of the Series.
