With this win, South Africa clinched the series. The Indian batting started to fold in the second over of the day itself when the Indian skipper Rahul Dravid was clean bowled by Nantie Hayward for 23. Dravid had stuck Hayward for three consecutive fours in that very over. Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar misread an incoming delivery from Makhaya Ntini to have his stumps rattled. Sachin scored 40 runs with 6 fours and a six. Sachin’s dismissal left India at 188/4. For the umpteenth time, V V S Laxman got off to a good start, but his lack of feet movement again resulted in his dismissal, this time for 23 runs caught at point by Herschelle Gibbs off Ntini. South African skipper Shaun Pollock stuck next having Anil Kumble caught at first slip by Nicky Boje. Harbhajan Singh scored 30 runs off 33 balls with 6 fours before Hayward had him caught behind by Mark Boucher with the second new ball. Soon after lunch the Indian innings came to an end when wicket keeper Deep Dasgupta was trapped plumb in front of the wicket by Kallis for 27. The Indians had eight wickets down with the score at 261. Javagal Srinath and Venkatesh Prasad did not bat due to a broken finger and a stiff neck respectively. Pollock was adjudged the Man of the Match, while Gibbs was adjudged the Man of the Series. The Indian team now comes back home to play a series against England, which starts, from December 3. in-depth coverage > Indian Cricket Team's South Africa Tour > |
