When stumps were drawn on Day Three, South Africa were 566/8 in their first innings, leading by 334 runs. Skipper Shaun Pollock (113) and Makhaya Ntini (34) were at the crease. The third day started with South Africa resuming their first innings at the overnight score of 261/4 with Jacques Kallis and Lance Klusener. Though Klusener was dismissed for 33, Kallis hit 110 runs on a wicket that was not giving any help to the bowlers. Pollock became the second South African in the innings to score a hundred hitting his top test score of 113 and he is still there at the crease. Pollock reached his 100 off 105 balls and has till now hit 7 sixes and 9 fours. The Indian bowling was so spineless that all the South African batsmen got off to a great start, building good partnerships for almost all the wickets. The fifth wicket partnership between Klusener and Kallis resulted in 60 runs. Kallis then put up 74 runs for the sixth wicket with Mark Boucher. The pair of Pollock and Nicky Boje put up 50 runs for the eighth wicket. The ninth stand wicket between Pollock and Ntini has put up 121 runs and is still going strong to add to the worries for India who have already been jolted by the revelations made by the Chief Executive of the South African board Gerald Majola. in-depth coverage > Indian Cricket Team's South Africa Tour > |
