This is the first BCCI meeting since Jagmohan Dalmiya became the BCCI chief. It is expected to take a decision on whether to abide by the ICC directive that Virender Sehwag should not be played in the Mohali test against England starting on December 3. The BCCI stand is that Sehwag has already served out the one-test ban slapped on him by match referee Mike Denness. Sehwag has been kept out of ongoing third and final test against South Africa though the ICC won’t treat it as an official test. A BCCI decision to include Sehwag in the team could trigger another further stand-off with ICC. Mr. Dalmiya is believed to have contacted Cricket Boards in other countries. Much would depend on their opinions. The meeting may also ratify a proposal-seeking grant of official status to the ongoing match. There are 23 items on the agenda of the meeting, which includes a discussion on Anti-Corruption Commissioner K Madhavan's report on match-fixing. in-depth coverage > Indian Cricket Team's South Africa Tour > |
