At Stumps Day Two, South Africa were 261/4 in the first innings with Jacques Kallis (41) at the crease. Neil McKenzie was brilliantly caught at first slip by V V S Laxman in the last over of the day off Sachin Tendulkar for 33. South Africa again got off to a great start with the openers Herschelle Gibbs and Gary Kirsten putting up 135 runs for the first wicket. The first Indian breakthrough came in the 35th over when Gibbs was caught at fine leg by Harbhajan Singh off Javagal Srinath. Gibbs continued his brilliant form scoring 59 runs. Debutant Jacobus Rudolph was run out off a brilliant throw by substitute Ajit Agarkar. Rudolph scored 21 runs. Gary Kirsten missed out on a hundred falling to Aashish Nehra caught at first slip by skipper Rahul Dravid. Kirsten scored 90 runs and his dismissal left South Africa at 195/3. Kallis, on 41, is looking set for a big score. And he still has a formidable array of allies in Lance Klusener, Shaun Pollock and Mark Boucher. That is daunting thought indeed for India! in-depth coverage > Indian Cricket Team's South Africa Tour > |
