India to challenge ICC decision 19.48 IST 23rd Nov 2001
By IndiaExpress Bureau
A combative Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided not to take the International Cricket Council's decision to call the third Test between India and South Africa at Centurion Park as an unofficial one, lying down.
The BCCI will certainly challenge the ICC’s decision, said BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah.
The BCCI secretary said that: "We are abiding by the decision of the ousted match referee Mike Denness, who slapped a one-match ban on middle order batsman Virendra Shewag for intimidating the umpires in the second Test, by not playing him in the third Test and hence the match has to be given official status."
"If the ICC does not give official status then we will not hesitate to challenge them," Mr. Shah said. But he, however, did not elaborate.
