The horrendous decision handed out by match referee Mike Denness to batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar and five other Indian cricketers has unleashed an avalanche of anger across the country. The verdict of an overwhelming majority of Indians is: Mike Dennis is guilty of racism, and he must go. The International Cricket Council (ICC), however, thinks otherwise. The ICC, dominated by the ‘white brigade’, has ruled out removal of Denness the Menace as well as revocation of the punishment awarded to the Indian players. Well, some people, like the Bourbons, never learn. The ICC obviously belongs to this category. So, where do we go from here? The course of action for India is clear. Now that the ICC has refused to see reason, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) must recall the team immediately, and cancel the remainder of the tour, marred by the ruling of a racist mind. Agreed, it will be a drastic decision. But then, drastic situations demand drastic action. No other step will salvage Indian pride and administer a more fitting rebuff to the racists masquerading as custodians of cricket. This is a bad news for Indian cricket fans. The main point is they are planning to damage Sachin's career. But we Indians will not allow this. Excessive, vociferous appealing only ends up annoying the umpires. At the same time two wrongs do not make a right. Shaun Pollock should also have been booked. As for Sachin tempering with the ball? Did he? Was he lifting the seam? The TV cameraman may not have understood that while bowling, holding of the ball in any manner is the prerogative of the of the bowler. The two match umpires had not complained and the TV cameraman does not have any say in the matter. Star players like Sachin should now take legal action against Mike Denness, the cameraman and the ICC for defamation. I have seen players playing the game and umpires playing the game. Now it is the match referee's turn! Dennis the Menace ‘s action is deplorable. It is another case of punishing India. The BCCI must immediately call back the team and lodge a protest with the ICC. That a great cricketer and a thorough gentleman like Sachin should be accused of ball tampering is both ludicrous and malicious. Altering the seam of a ball will help only the fast bowlers. Remember, Waqar and Wasim were accused of doing it some time back. Of course, we don't know how much of it is true. Sachin, who bowls only slow spin or a couple of gentle medium pace deliveries, will be fully aware that such tricks will not help him. Wholesale punishment of almost half of the Indian team, for excessive appealing is shocking and indefensible. Shaun Pollock did not appeal any less. Why are there two different sets of rules for Shaun and Sehwag? Some have suggested legal action. I think we should do that and till the result of that comes out, Dennis should be barred from being a referee. If he is found guilty (legally) he should be banned for the rest of his career. In the past players have been banned for match fixing. However, I do not think stopping the tour is a good idea. Instead, we should do our best and win the third test. That would be the best rebuff to the ‘racists’. Also, we should try to clean bowl the S. African players so that there is no need to appeal. This is getting ridiculous and it’s time Indians stopped being the nice guys, showed some spine and fought back. After winning the next match in SA, we must defeat the England team comprehensively. Cricket is one game where Indians do a great deal, and its the favourite game of our country.
