The day’s heroes on the filed were undoubtedly Deep Dasgupta and Rahul Dravid, who put up 171 runs for the second wicket. Both Dasgupta and Dravid played extremely well to steer India to safety. Dravid, who failed in the last three test innings, scored 87 runs off 241 balls with 12 fours. He was caught behind by wicket keeper Mark Boucher off Nantie Hayward with the second new ball in fading light. Play was halted after the 85th over due to bad light. In the fourth over after play was resumed, Dasgupta edged a ball off Hayward to second slip where Jacques Kallis grabbed the catch. Dasgupta showed exceptional patience and temperament to score 63 runs with 7 fours. It seems like that in Dasgupta the Indians have found an able and suitable partner for Shiv Sunder Das at lease for the time being. When play was called off due to bad light, India were 206/3 in their second innings with Sachin Tendulkar (22) and skipper Sourav Ganguly (4) at the crease. Herschelle Gibbs was adjudged the Man of the Match for his knock of 196 in the South African first innings. With South Africa still 1-0 up in the three test series, the third test starts from Friday at Centurion, where the pitch is faster than those of both at Bloemfontein and Port Elizabeth. in-depth coverage > Indian Cricket Team's South Africa Tour > |
