17.10 IST   29th Sept 2001

By IndiaExpress Bureau

Former International Cricket Council (ICC) chief Jagmohan Dalmiya was elected president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) at its annual meeting in Chennai on Saturday.

Of the total 31 votes, 30 were at stake, 29 units plus the President's, and Goa was not allowed to vote as per the Board President's ruling on the basis of opinion given by legal advisor Nalini Chidambaram.

"Dalmiya has won by 17 votes against 13," an Indian cricket official said.

Dalmiya, a former secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, defeated A.C. Muthiah, who was seeking his third one-year term in a row.
